Fiona is an author, speaker, trainer, former teacher and facilitator in the areas of well-being and Positive Psychology. Having spent many years as a primary school teacher, she is passionate about placing well-being at the heart of school life. For the past few years, promoting this has been her focus- through books, media contributions, and training sessions.
She holds an M. Sc. in Applied Positive Psychology, the science of well-being, from The University of East London. Her programmes include Weaving Well-Being, a positive mental health programme for primary school children which is now in use in the majority of Irish Primary Schools, (and which is due to be launched in the UK in 2021) and also Wired for Well-Being, her recently released programme for second-level students.

We look forward to welcoming Fiona to talk to our school once again. Our last webinar was a real success.

STARS OF THE FUTURE

Congratulations to Blackrock rugby u13's who won the Leinster Cup last Sunday. Conor May, Jack Gorman, Cormac Kavanagh, William Kelly and Jack O' Neill all played an important part in this team during the past season. In a nail-biting match in Energia Park, Jack O' Neill (6th class) kicked the winning penalty with the last kick of the game. Such composure, skill, confidence and nerve from a boy so young. Well done to all involved. Enjoy your celebrations!

Peter Twomey, John Paul O' Grady, Harry Keenan and past pupil Reuben Duffy were on the Blackrock u11's team that won the Shannon festival on Good Friday. It is great to see that our boys are utilising the fundamental movement skills that they are learning so well. Playing a variety of sports and being active is a very important part of a young boys life. Well done to all involved. We are very proud of you.

Hollypark Sports teams

Hollypark sports teams are going from strength to strength. Our 6th class soccer team had a very impressive 3-2 win against Ballyroan BNS yesterday. Benjamin Byrne scored a last-minute winner. These boys never give up! Thank you to Mr. Mitchell & Mr. Mc Evoy for taking the teams and to Mr. Maguire for helping set up the pitch and goalposts in Meadowvale.

Our tennis teams are riding the crest of a wave at present and had a mighty 3-0 win last week against local rivals Carysfort. Our golfers are gearing up for a busy summer ahead and we have 40 boys from 4th, 5th & 6th receiving lessons in Leopardstown driving range every week. Watch this space!

SUNFLOWERS, PAT PERERA

Some things are synonomys with each other. When I hear the word sunflowers, I always think of one name, Pat Perera. Pat has been planting sunflowers with our boys in Hollypark for the past 30 years. Thankfully, Pat will return to the classrooms of Hollypark and plant sunflowers with the boys from Junior Infants-6th class on Tuesday, May 10th. Pat is looking for small plant pots 9-11cm in diameter. If you have any of these, you can drop them to the school at any stage during the week. We look forward to welcoming Pat and her team back to the school once more.

Lots of changes in the past 3 years!

We are very proud of Hollypark BNS. We are proud of the students that attend the school. We are proud of the teachers, SNAs and staff that work here. During the past 3 years, we have invested in the facilities and the appearance of the school. Some of these changes are pictured below- we installed a state of the art Astro pitch, upgraded our website, purchased a defibrillator, new signage, paintwork and planting to the front of the school, we added an outdoor classroom along with fundamental movement areas inside and outside including a trim trail and an activity corridor. We have invested in resources for science, maths, technology, english and physical education. We are giving the boys real hands-on learning experiences through use of manipulatives, equipment and up-to-date resources. We hope you have noticed the changes and that you are as proud of the school as we are!

DESIGN AND BUILD

Mr. Molyneux's 5th class boys were charged with the task of designing and building scarecrows for our new wildflower areas. Armed with tonnes of straw, sticks and old clothes they set about their work. Working co-operatively, 5 scarecrows were completed. These will be on view in the front and rear of our school in the coming days. Try not to get frightened!

Hollypark BNS and GNS have used Morrigan Renovation for the past 3 years. We find their service very professional and the end result is always remarkably impressive. Martin, David and Patrick are very easy to deal with and have transformed our school with their craft. Thank you, Martin and your team for all your work.
