REMOTE LEARNING

Well done to boys, parents, guardians, teachers and SNAs for another great week of remote learning. The level of engagement is exceptional and everybody must be complimented for their participation despite the various challenges in every household. Keep up the great work for the rest of the week.

Tips for Remote Learning

• If it is possible, try and have a good daily routine.
• Have your breakfast and get dressed.
• Put out all the books you need for the day.
• Begin with a subject you enjoy getting you started and easing you into the day.
• Next, pick a subject that requires more concentration or one that you find harder.
• Remember to take movement breaks (Perhaps a lesson with Mr. Moloney or a Joe Wicks short workout)
• Upload 2 pieces of work to Seesaw for your teacher.
• Try and vary the subjects you upload to Seesaw.
• DEAR time is always a good addition to your day (Drop Everything and Read)
• Finish your day with another movement break/activity. (Maybe go for a cycle, a walk and get some fresh air)
• Do your absolute best as you have been doing.

CORMAC’S WEEKLY BLOG

The life of an 11-year-old during this latest lock down – week 2.

First week of homeschooling and it wasn’t that bad! While the holidays were great, it was good to get back into some sort of routine. I generally try to start my work at 9.00 am, I feel so tired when I get up because, during the holidays, I did not get up until almost 10am. My schoolwork from see-saw keeps me going until lunch time. I particularly enjoyed our 5th class six-minute podcasts, they are really exciting and I can’t wait to listen to the next days story. During this lockdown I've had a lot more time with my family. We play a lot of board games and card games such as “25” and “spoons”. We also started doing quizzes for the past two Friday nights which are organised by Dun Laoghaire Libraries, they are really fun. At the weekend we go to places like Cabinteely park, Peoples park in Dun Laoghaire and we also walk the pier for exercise. I also go on a lot of cycles and get to see some of my friends who live close by. Most days I go for a walk with my family. My mum works from home and with Covid my dad now does too, if he doesn’t have to go into his office, so it is nice to be able to go on walks during the day. I like these walks because they keep me awake and I get to chat a lot! We try to explore new places and we walk through passageways to see where they lead to.

FOCUS IRELAND

Well done to Ewan Mahon (4th class) and his family who have undertaken a steps challenge to raise money for Focus Ireland. Ewan walks 10,000 steps a day and has currently raised 1,700 euro for a great cause. Well done Ewan, you will return to school very fit!

INAUGURATION DAY

We wish Joe Biden the best of luck as he becomes the 46th American President today. President Biden has strong links with Ireland and we hope he will visit our beautiful country soon.

 

BUACHAILLI NUA

All the staff and pupils in Hollypark BNS would like to extend a warm welcome to three new students that joined us last week. Brody, Côme and Pierre- Louis have been meeting their new classmates and teachers via Zoom but we can’t wait to finally welcome them into our school building.
