SPORTS BLITZ '24

What an incredible day we had last Friday! Boys from Junior Infants- 6th enjoyed a diverse range of sports. Tennis, yoga and hip-hop dancing caught the imagination of our younger boys while volleyball, soccer, table-tennis and tug-o-war were very popular amongst the senior end.
Thank you to all volunteers, coaches, past-pupils, mums and dads for your help with the day and a huge thank you for your generosity with sponsorship. Finally, a massive thank you to Sarah and her Parents' Association team for their incredible work in pulling the whole event together.
I hope you enjoy the selection of pictures throughout the newsletter:

OUR WONDERFUL NEW SPACE

Our beautiful new space is taking shape. We expect the builders to complete the works within the next fortnight. It looks as good in real life as the concept designs from Louise Mc Intyre (inception.ie) We are immensely proud of this project and we thank you for your help so far. We look forward to showing our new room to our whole school community. Together with the PA, we will arrange a school open day where parents & guardians will be invited to visit the whole school. I will keep you posted!

HALLOWE'EN DRESS UP

Halloween is upon us once again, and we are looking forward to seeing the boys dressed up for our annual Hallowe' en dress-up day, which will take place on Friday, October 25th.
Some boys have already begun their costume planning and we are excited to see the variety they will be dressed as, from spooky to silly and everything in between. Please find below guidelines and requirements to follow for the smooth and safe running of the day:

  • No accessories, e.g., nothing they need to hold in their hand or things that can be put down for others to potentially pick up and handle.
  • No long capes, dangly material or anything that may be a tripping hazard.
  • Costumes should be comfortable and practical for sitting in the classroom for the day, e.g., no inflatable costumes.
  • Be mindful that the costume isn’t going to scare a younger student. If you think a Junior Infant will be frightened, then tone it down or reconsider.

Less is more when it comes to costumes and keeping it simple can often be the most effective. There will be prizes throughout the school for best dressed and creative costumes. It is a very exciting day for the boys and with your continued support and understanding we hope to make it another success.

BUDDIES

One of the nicest traditions we have in Hollypark BNS is the buddy system. On entering the school, each Junior Infant is given a 5th-class buddy. They remain buddies when they move into Senior Infants and 6th class respectively. The boys get to know each other over two years. They go on Teddy Bear Picnics, they read to each other, they show off their art, they help each other at sports day and other events like ice- cream day, minibeast hunting and graduation day. Their bond is never forgotten. In fact, our current 6th class still fondly remember their buddies when they were in Junior Infants 8 years ago.
Weelky buddy meetings are up and running since week 1. Pictured below are Ms. Hynes' room 1 meeting Mrs. Regan's 5th class boys.

DABBLEDOO MUSIC

In 2022, we launched Dabbledoo music in all 24 of our classrooms. Dabbledoo is an independent, Irish provider of exciting and interactive online music activities. It covers all elements of the Primary School Music Curriculum.
Our teachers recently attended a training webinar on incorporating this wonderful resource into their music lessons. So far, our boys and classroom teachers are really enjoying this engaging new addition.
In addition to this programme, Mr. Ryan will be teaching Ukuele to all boys in 2nd class this year.

Dabbledoo also offer free, specially created content for parents and guardians to enjoy at home with their children.

Go to https://dabbledoo.com/p/parents and sign up using our school roll number- 19258u.
Thank you to Ms. N. Ryan for leading all things music in Hollypark.

Well done to our fabulous Junior Bs who drew with our local rivals St. Brigid's BNS in a titanic battle yesterday. Both teams showed real class and sportmanship throughout. We are very proud of our boys. Well done to Ms. Costello and Mr. Lineen for a very successful campaign.
