WILDFLOWER GARDEN

We hope to add a wildflower garden to our front lawns. We had a little success with this last year but unfortunately it did not take off as we would have liked. We have now identified a better location that will get lots of sunshine. We are looking for volunteers, green fingered parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts to lend us a helping hand. Thank you to parent, Pat Kane, from reuzi.ie who has donated wildflower seed bombs to get us started. If you are interested in helping with the design, build, planting of this project, please email info@hollyparkbns.ie Subject: Wildflower Garden. Thank you in advance.

1st Class Show: Hat's Off! The Musical

Rehearsals are well under way in 1st class for a very special performance. The boys in Mrs. Webbley's, Ms. Clinton's & Ms.Dennan's classes are delighted to be putting on ‘Hats Off!’ the musical this term. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the boys to perform for their parents and the school, something which we know they have been eager to do. This year group were not able to experience the usual Junior & Senior Infant Christmas shows due to Covid restrictions.

Our performance for parents will take place on the morning of Wednesday, March 29th (time to be confirmed). Parents will be treated to a fabulous repertoire of farmyard tunes!

5TH CLASS BUDDIES

A lovely tradition in Hollypark BNS is the buddy syastem. Boys from Junior Infants buddy up with 5th class and Senior Infants buddy up with 6th class. We see first hand the positive impact the buddy system has on our younger boys. They love their buddies and see them as real role models in their school life. Pictured below are Junior Infants and 5th class on a recent nature walk to Granada. It was a lovely day enjoyed by all!

SCHOOL SELF EVALUATION

Staff in Hollypark are currently engaged in preparations for the next cycle of School Self Evaluation (SSE). The Department of Education and Skills requires each school to engage in the practice of self-reflection or a School Self Evaluation (SSE) process. SSE is a “collaborative, inclusive, and reflective process of internal school review”.

The process of School Self Evaluation involves gathering information from a range of sources about the quality of teaching and learning in our school, and making informed decisions in the best interest of each individual school. It culminates in the development of a School Improvement Plan which sets targets for improvement in certain areas.

Ms O’Neill’s class have been busy working with Beebots and Sphero Indi Robot Cars making tracks and discovering how they respond to different logical computer instructions. I look forward to welcoming some of these boys back to the school in years to come to speak to our younger boys about life as an engineer.

We are very lucky to have many wonderful teachers. This week, we thank Ms. Hynes for leading us in all things STEM and for organising an excellent Engineers Week.
