A huge thank you to Tadhg, Ty, Kyle, Robert and Mrs. Quealy for their ongoing work caring for our school gardens. Our surrounds are looking magnificent and adding to the very positive environment in Hollypark. Our gardening team play a very active role in our school and we are so proud of them. Boys and Mrs. Quealy, we thank you very much for all your hard work.
We hope to add a wildflower garden to our front lawns. We had a little success with this last year but unfortunately it did not take off as we would have liked. We have now identified a better location that will get lots of sunshine. We are looking for volunteers, green fingered parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts to lend us a helping hand. Thank you to parent, Pat Kane, from reuzi.ie who has donated wildflower seed bombs to get us started. If you are interested in helping with the design, build, planting of this project, please email firstname.lastname@example.org Subject: Wildflower Garden. Thank you in advance.
STARS OF THE FUTURE
Congratulations to Daniel, 3rd class and Sam, 5th class who were recent winners in Granada FC awards ceremony. The future of Granada FC and Hollypark soccer team is looking very bright!
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sonny in Junior Infants was another weekend winner. Sonny is pictured on the famous Hollypark rock holding his Player of the Week certificate from Cuala GAA club. The certificate is even signed by the very, very famous Con O' Callaghan. That certificate will be worth a lot of money in years to come Sonny!
1st Class Show: Hat's Off! The Musical
Rehearsals are well under way in 1st class for a very special performance. The boys in Mrs. Webbley's, Ms. Clinton's & Ms.Dennan's classes are delighted to be putting on ‘Hats Off!’ the musical this term. This will be a wonderful opportunity for the boys to perform for their parents and the school, something which we know they have been eager to do. This year group were not able to experience the usual Junior & Senior Infant Christmas shows due to Covid restrictions.
Our performance for parents will take place on the morning of Wednesday, March 29th (time to be confirmed). Parents will be treated to a fabulous repertoire of farmyard tunes!
SERVICE OF LIGHT
Well done to our 6th class pupils who attended the Service of Light on February 10th and 24th. Boys are now really looking forward to their Confirmation.
From March 14th-16th, Hollypark BNS will celebrate Neurodiversity week. Please see the poster attached for upcoming events. Various classes will be involved across the week.
SPRING CLEAN: MARCH 25th 2023
After the success of last years Spring Clean, we will once again come together as a school community to clean up areas of our school. If you are interested in raking leaves, pulling weeds, power washing walls, planting flowers and general upkeep of the surrounds, please come along We welcome all volunteers, young and old!
We will have a small amount of rakes, shovels and gardening equipment available on the day. We would be very grateful if you could bring some equipment (labelled) with you on the day also. Thank you in advance.
5TH CLASS BUDDIES
A lovely tradition in Hollypark BNS is the buddy syastem. Boys from Junior Infants buddy up with 5th class and Senior Infants buddy up with 6th class. We see first hand the positive impact the buddy system has on our younger boys. They love their buddies and see them as real role models in their school life. Pictured below are Junior Infants and 5th class on a recent nature walk to Granada. It was a lovely day enjoyed by all!
SCHOOL SELF EVALUATION
Staff in Hollypark are currently engaged in preparations for the next cycle of School Self Evaluation (SSE). The Department of Education and Skills requires each school to engage in the practice of self-reflection or a School Self Evaluation (SSE) process. SSE is a “collaborative, inclusive, and reflective process of internal school review”.
The process of School Self Evaluation involves gathering information from a range of sources about the quality of teaching and learning in our school, and making informed decisions in the best interest of each individual school. It culminates in the development of a School Improvement Plan which sets targets for improvement in certain areas.

This week, we are celebrating Engineers Week. The school is buzzing with classes taking part in everything to do with engineering. The boys are learning about the various types of engineers and all that they do in the world around us.
We are very lucky in Hollypark to have wonderful parents and this week, the boys have thoroughly enjoyed visits from some engineers. Thank you to Anirudh’s dad who came in to talk to the 6th class boys talking about his job as a computer engineer.
The boys in 3rd and 4th classes really enjoyed the visit from CIllian and Luke’s dad to chat about life as an electrical engineer.
Today, the boys in Junior Infants thoroughly enjoyed Rían’s dad’s visit about being an electrical systems engineer.
We are looking forward to more visitors to chat to the boys about engineering later in the week. A huge word of thanks to all the parents who have given up their time to chat to the boys about the wonderful world of engineering.
Ms O’Neill’s class have been busy working with Beebots and Sphero Indi Robot Cars making tracks and discovering how they respond to different logical computer instructions. I look forward to welcoming some of these boys back to the school in years to come to speak to our younger boys about life as an engineer.
We are very lucky to have many wonderful teachers. This week, we thank Ms. Hynes for leading us in all things STEM and for organising an excellent Engineers Week.
