AN PARáID

Last Wednesday, we had a Paráid that we will remember forever. It was full of fun and cheer despite the miserable weather! Thank you parents and grandparents for turning up in your droves to help us celebrate Lá Fhéile Pádraig in style. A huge thank you also to parent and RTÉ presenter, Jacqui Hurley for lending us her talents as MC for the event. Once again, our amazing staff pulled the whole day together to make memories that Hollypark boys will never forget. Thank you to Mrs. Regan and Mrs. Webbley for organising the fun and thank you to Mr. Ryan, Mr. O' Brien, Mr. Maguire and SNA Cathy Clarke for helping to set up and get the place rocking!

Bhí cách ag tsnúth go mór leis an paráid sa chlós Dé Ceádaoin seo caite. Bhí áthas an domhain orainn fáilte a chur roimh na tuismitheoirí ar fad arís in mblianna! Bhí an t-ádh linn go raibh Jacqui Hurley ag cuidiú linn na ranganna a fógairt ar an lá. Rinne na páistí an iarracht amhráin, rainn and dánta a foghlaim.
A bhuachaillí- ba cheart daoibh a bheith bródúil asaibh féin! Bhí sibh ar feabhas ar fad.

Seachtain na Gaeilge 2023

Bhí Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl an tseachtain seo caite.  Bhí immeachtaí éagsula ag siúl ar fud na scoile.
Irish week was in full swing in the school last week in the lead up to Saint Patrick’s Day. There were various events running all over the school.

Céilí Mór sa Halla

I rang a trí agus rang a ceathar, bhí céilí mór sa halla leis na gcailiní ó Hollypark GNS. Bhí said ag rince Ballaí Luimnigh i ngrúpaí agus bhain gach duine taithneamh as! 3rd and 4th classes welcomed the girls into the hall last week, where there was a céilí in the hall. They danced The Walls of Limerick together and everyone enjoyed it!

Rásaí ar an Astro

I rang a cúig agus rang a sé, bhí ráisaí measctha bacainní ar siúl leis na gcailiní ó Hollypark GNS. Bhí an-sport ar fad acu le chéile, agus tar éis na rásaí, bhí seans acu comhrá nó dhó a dhéanamh i ngrúpaí beaga.
5th and 6th classes had a wonderful time during mixed obstacle relay races on the Astro with the Girls' School. When the races were over, they had the opportunity to chat in Irish to the girls as they worked towards earning their fáinne badges.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Webbley and Mrs. Regan for organising all the events.

Raidió Seachtain Na Gaeilge

Ag am lón, bhí ceol le cloisteáil ag teacht amach as oifig an bPríomhoide! Don chéad bhlian, bhí rang a sé in ann Raidió Seachtain na Gaeilge a chur ar siúl dúinn ar fad a an idirchum. Ar an Luan, bhí An Poc ar Buile le John Spillane agus Dermot Kennedy á shéinnt ag na buachaillí ó Rang Ms.Maloney. Ar an Máirt, bhí Peigín Litir Mór agus U2 á shéinnt ag rang Ms.O’Neill. Ar an gCeádaoin, chun deireadh a chur le Seachtain na Gaeilge, bhí “The Bog in The Valley” agus Westlife le cloisteáil ó rang Mr.Molyneux. Bhí na buachaillí ag obair go dian ar feadh coicís agus bhí said go hiontach are fad. Maith sibh lads!

At lunchtimes last week there was music coming from the principal’s office! For the first time ever, 6th class put on a radio show in Irish on the intercom for the whole school. On Monday, boys from Ms.Maloney’s class were playing John Spillane’s Poc Ar Búille and some Dermot Kennedy for the boys to enjoy. Tuesday brought Ms. O’ Neill’s class with Péigin Litir Mór and some U2. Finally, Mr. Molyneux’s boys wrapped up Seachtain na Gaeilge with a few jokes, as well as playing “The Bog in the Valley” and Westlife. The boys were working hard for a fortnight prior to these shows and they were outstanding. Well done lads!

1st classes will perform Hat’s Off! for their parents and for the school next week. The boys have been working very hard to perfect their lines and songs. A dress rehearsal will take place on Tuesday before the show makes its Hollypark debut for the boys’ parents. We can’t wait for you to see it and we know you’ll be very proud of your boys.

Our school hall is very small and for that reason seating will be limited to 2 adults per pupil. We are expecting the parents of 71 1st class boys.

sCHOOL SElF EVALUATION (SSE)

Teaching and SNA staff enjoyed a training day last Thursday. The teaching staff received training on our Primary Language Curriculum. Thank you to Mrs. Regan and Mrs. Webbley for organising and running this training day for us. This was a very valuable opportunity for our teaching staff to work towards our focus for next year on the teaching and learning of Irish in our school. We are currently working with pupils across the school to get their feedback, conducting focus groups and interviews with pupils in a range of classes.

SPRING CLEAN

This weekend will see the second Spring Clean event take place. Volunteers are welcome from 9am - 2pm. You can also drop in and out throughout the day. We have identified 10 areas around the school that need a little TLC after a the winter months. If you have an interest in weeding, planting, digging and cleaning etc. we would love to see you. The Parents' Association will be on hand to provide snacks and refreshments. If you have any garden equipment, please bring some with you. (clearly labeled to avoid them getting mixed up!)  We have great memories of the event that took place this time last year. Thank you in advance to all volunteers

LET'S GROW

3rd class are very lucky to be able to take part in the SuperValu Let's Grow programme. The boys planted seeds that we will be watering and keeping a very close eye on over the next few weeks to monitor their growth. We are hoping to grow crops of peas, sunflowers, pumpkins, cress and salad leaves. It is great to see the boys getting interested in planting and all things agriculture!

SPORTING SUCCESS

Well done to our 6th class Basketball Team who played a blitz yesterday. The boys were excellent and won 5 matches out of 7. The tournament was really well run and thank you to PE teacher Mr. Moloney for taking the boys.

Our soccer team had another impressive victory yesterday, winning 8-0 against Ballyroan. Rumour has it, Stephen Kenny, Ireland manager is keeping tabs on a few of our guys!

Best of luck to our first ever rugby team who will play a blitz in Willow Park this coming Saturday. The boys have been busy training under the watchful eyes of Mr. O' Brien and parents Paul O' Grady and Steve Pattison. We wish you well boys, maybe a Grand Slam in the making?

PAST PUPIL WATCH

Speaking of sporting success, congratulations to Gonzaga College on their first Senior Cup win. The staff of Hollypark BNS were extra happy with the victory as two of our past pupils played starring roles in the victory. Number 10, Stephen Mc Mahon kicked 20 points and played a blinder throughout while number 5, Tom Wyley, scored the winning try and capped off his terrific performance with the Man of the Match award. As students in Hollypark, these boys played all sports and won numerous Gaelic, hurling and soccer competitions.  We wish these men well in their future careers and we will be keeping a watchful eye on our national newspapers for more reports of glory. Stephen and Tom have promised to bring the cup into Hollypark to inspire our next generation.

Perhaps Stephen and Tom were inspired by Garry Ringrose during his visit to Hollypark when the boys were students here. To Gary and the rest of the Ireland team, Hollypark want to say a huge congratulations on your Grand Slam victory. We are very proud of your win and we wish you well in France at the World Cup.

STAR OF THE FUTURE

Well done to George Morgan III who recently enthralled his class with a project on his great grandfather George Morgan I. George's great grandfather played rugby for Ireland in the 1930s and was made captain of the Ireland team in 1937. He was an inspirational leader and a superb rugby player- just like George in 3rd class!
