Kilmacud Crokes will play Kilcoo, Co. Down in the All- Ireland final on Saturday, February 12th at 5pm. It is wonderful to see our past pupils so heavily involved. Operation purple and gold is well underway in Hollypark BNS with flags, banners, bunting, artwork, poems and posters adorning every nook and cranny inside and outside of our building.

The boys are encouraged to wear purple and gold (yellow) colours to school on Friday 11th, February.

We wish everyone at the club the very best of luck! Crokes Abú.

Spring has arrived

As the evenings get slightly longer and the skies begin to brighten, now is a great time to re-focus on limiting screen time at home.

This month’s focus is limiting screen time. We see first-hand the negative effect that prolonged screen time has on the concentration and behaviour of our boys. We also see the positive effect that fresh air, activities, sports and play has on the holistic development of each child. Fitness homework continues in each class and is a great excuse to get out and get active.

cumann na mbunscol

Inter schools Cumann na mBunscol football is back! We have waited almost 2 years to say that. Our volunteer teachers are busy putting the final preparations in place ahead of a February 10th round 1 match. We have entered two senior teams and 6th class students will be prioritised first. Hurling leagues will begin after Easter.

schools Tennis

The Leinster Tennis Primary Schools League will run from March 7th- May 26th this year. We are hoping to enter two teams of 5th and 6th class boys to represent Hollypark. There will be 6 boys on each team. If your son is interested in being considered for a place on the team, please email details to info@hollyparkbns: FAO Eithne O’ Leary before 10am on Friday, 11th of February.

Please include, details of tournament experience and Tennis Ireland ranking (if you have one) as this will help with team selection. Leinster Tennis also use this information to determine which division our teams will play in. Please note, players in Division 1 and 2 must have a Tennis Ireland pin number.

covid-19

Thank you to our school community for continuing to keep us safe from Covid-19. We have noticed a sharp rise in Covid cases over the last few weeks.

Example: John is 12 years old in 6th class. John has been vaccinated. John’s sister, Laura, is in 4th class in the girl’s school. Laura tested positive for Covid-19 on an antigen test. John (even though he is vaccinated) must now restrict his movements for 7 days as he is a household contact of Laura.

Uniform Recycling!

In case you missed it this week, the Parents Association are organising a second collection of Hollypark Boys uniforms / tracksuits / coats which boys have outgrown, and you may have at home no longer in use.  Members from the PA will be outside the school accepting these items on Wednesday 9th February from 8.20am to 9.00am.  If you have items to donate, we ask that they are clean and in good condition (no rips or tears, zips working etc) and all personal information removed i.e.  boys name, contact phone number.  Once all the items have been sorted through, we will post details in the school newsletter on when they will be available for families to obtain at a pop-up stall at the school.

Orchard in the Community

We are delighted to partner with Mercury Engineering Orchards in the Community initiative. Mercury have sent us 5 orchard trees to plant in our beautiful surroundings. The orchards will encourage and support bee habitats. Thank you to all involved in Mercury engineering for donating to their local school.

‘As part of the Irish data centre community and supporters, Mercury Engineering, who are based locally to the school in Sandyford, pledged to take part in the DC For Bee’s “Orchards in the Community” initiative by planting 50 orchards across Ireland in the 2022 planting season. Orchards are important habitats supporting the 99 species of bees in Ireland, of which 30% are facing extinction. Fruit trees blossom early in the year, providing an important food source for our pollinators at the end of winter. The deliberate spacing between trees also lets more sunlight in, which is welcome for flying insects, like butterflies and bees, who need warmth to power their flight muscles. This initiative provides a means for organisation & community purpose-based activity which will foster an appreciation of, and awareness for, protecting and encouraging biodiverse habitats in our school and local areas’.

Homework Policy

We are currently reviewing and updating our Homework Policy.

Homework provides our pupils with the opportunity of revisiting learning experiences encountered during the school day.  It also helps our pupils to develop a good work ethic which will stand to them as they move to secondary school and beyond.

Homework is an opportunity to share the learning with the home. We recognise the importance of education as a partnership between home and school.

We welcome feedback from you, the parents as part of this review.

Please email info@hollyparkbns.ie with your feedback as parents.
