smooth re-opening
Well done and thank you to our school community on a very smooth re-opening. It is great to meet and greet the boys every morning and their manners are a credit to you, the parents. We ask boys not to arrive at the school gate until their allotted time. We kindly ask parents from 3rd-6th drop and go. Once Junior Infants-2nd class have been admitted into the school, we encourage parents not to linger in and around the campus.
Please do not block the footpaths at collection time. Stand in to one side and wait for your class to be dismissed.
As Covid-19 is still very much prevalent in our community, we ask that you follow all public health guidelines to ensure the safety of pupils, staff and parents. We ask you to maintain social distancing and to wear a face mask (even if you are vaccinated) while in and around the school campus.
REMEMBER YOUR BELONGINGS
Due to the strict Covid restrictions within the school we are unable to handle any forgotten items. When packing their schoolbags, boys must remember to carry all their belongings with them. Having a checklist on the fridge might help!
Physical education
Boys have two PE sessions per week. One session with Mr. Moloney and one session with their class teacher. As we are sharing our Astro pitch with the Girls’ school, we are busy finalising our timetables and teachers will inform you of the two PE days for your classes. We are very fortune to have top class facilities in Hollypark where our boys enjoy a variety of sports.
women’s sport to the fore
What a weekend it was for women’s sport in Ireland. We were very fortunate to witness some world class performances from our sporting greats over the past few weeks. Rachel Blackmore, Kellie Harrington, Katie Taylor, Katie- George Dunleavy, Meath and Dublin’s women’s football team and Leona Maguire to mention a few. These athletes are at the peak of their sports and are great role models for us all. We congratulate them all and look forward to witnessing more historic feats in the near future.
Women’s sport has long been celebrated in Hollypark BNS and one mother in particular, Jacqui Hurley, mother of Luke in 2nd class, has published two books titled ‘Girls Play Too.’ This book is a favourite in class libraries. Well done to all involved. We are proud of you all.

KNOW THE SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19
In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 it is important to know and recognise the symptoms of coronavirus (which includes the DELTA variant). Common symptoms of coronavirus include:
- a fever (high temperature - 38 degrees Celsius or above).
- a new cough - this can be any kind of cough, not just dry.
- shortness of breath or breathing difficulties.
- loss or change in your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
- Fatigue
- Aches and Pains
Other uncommon symptoms of coronavirus include:
- sore throat
- headaches
- runny or stuffy noses
- feeling sick or vomiting
- diarrhoea
Please do not send your child to school if he is displaying any of the symptoms above. Please do not give your child Calpol or similar and send them to school.
GETTING TO SCHOOL
We encourage walking, cycling and scooting to school as much as possible. We ask that you do not linger on the Campus at drop off and collection times. Foxrock Church have very kindly offered spaces for a park and walk system. If you do have to drive to school, we operate a morning and evening one way system.
MONTHLY FOCUS
For the month of October, we will focus on manners, courtesy and respect. This focus is not only for when boys are present in the school building but also as they represent us in the community. We are immensely proud of our boys, both past and present, and we take great pride in hearing how well they are looked upon in our community. We continue to focus on kind words and kind actions and the great saying ‘If it is not nice, don’t say it. If it is not nice, don’t do it.’ Boys can take this mantra with them everywhere they go.
ALADDIN CONNECT
Please ensure all families are signed up to Aladdin Connect. This is our method of communication and in case of pod, class or school closure you will receive an email or text message notification. In order to receive text messages, please ensure when signing up for Aladdin Connect that you verify your mobile number when requested to do so.
STEM IN ACTION
In Hollypark, we love to see boys participating in STEM, science, technology, engineering and maths. Mr. Molyneux’s 5th class were recently tasked with designing towers from index cards. The boys enjoyed hands on experience, designing, building, co-operating and teamwork to produce to final results. Well done boys, future engineers in the making!
ZERO WASTE WEEK
In Hollypark, we are always conscious of how we can reduce, reuse, recycle our waste. As this is Zero Waste Week, I have attached a handy reference guide that boys can use when tidying up at home!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYS!
This week is a special week for these boys. Robbie Hart, William Kelly, Cian Tresson, Ronan Lee, Logan Webbley, Conor Eyre and Thomas Donegan. We wish you a happy birthday boys!
AND FINALLY
As we get prepare to turn Hollypark BNS, green and red this weekend we say best wishes to Mayo and Tyrone teams in the men’s All-Ireland football final.
PS. Please, please, please, please Mayo win!!!!!
