Happy New Year
A very warm welcome back to all pupils and families. I hope you all had a lovely break and wishing you a happy and healthy 2020.
Monthly Focus
As a new year and new decade is upon us, now is a good time to set some goals and resolutions for ourselves. Our focus this month will be ‘treating everybody with respect’. Respect for ourselves, classmates, other pupils, teachers and staff. It is also important to remember to treat our own property and the property of others with respect.
Tennis
Entry for the Primary Schools Tennis League is open. We are currently looking for boys in 4th, 5th and 6th class who play tournament or competitive club level tennis. Boys who would like to attend trials should email hollyparktennis2018@gmail.com. Boys born in 2009 or older will be eligible to enter.
Thank you to parent Niamh Curran for her time and expertise.
You Shall Be My Witness
You Shall Be My Witness Programme is a key part of the Sacrament of Confirmation. It starts on Friday 10th January in the Community Centre. If you haven’t enrolled and you would like to take part, there are still some places available. Contact Maeve Davidson in the Parish Centre for further details.
Spreading Bugs
Many boys are coming to school with various illnesses. If boys are sick, please don’t send them into school. Visit undertheweather.ie to find ways to stop the spread of colds and flu this season.
Mental Health and Wellbeing
In February, Martina Boylan from the National Parents’ Council will give a talk on Supporting Parents to Support Their Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing. The talk will be on two separate evenings – Evening 1: Infants to 2nd . Evening 2: 3rd to 6th. If interested in attending, please let me or your class teacher know so we can gauge numbers. February dates to be confirmed in the next week.
A New Year, A Happy and Healthier
You Over the months of January and February, our 5th class boys will be leading the school in ‘A Happy and Healthier You’ in our never-ending quest to tackle Mental Health and Wellbeing issues. The boys are currently drawing up 7 challenges that the whole school can pick and choose from to make their lives happy and healthier. Boys will pick 2 out of 7 challenges for the month of January and a different 2 out of 7 for the month of February. Keep and eye on the newsletter and the wellbeing wall for more information and motivation! Thank you to SNA Gillian Conroy for co-ordinating this project.
Parent/Teacher Meetings
Parent/Teacher meetings take place on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th January. School will close at 2.10pm on each of these days to facilitate meetings. Some teachers are organising other times and dates and will be in contact with you this week through your son’s homework journal.
For the meetings to run smoothly for both parents and teachers, we ask you not to bring your children to the school at the time of your meeting.
After School Activities - Chess
After school activities will re-commence in February after parent/teacher meetings, except for chess which will begin a new term on Monday 13th January.
Traffic Issues
In the lead up to Christmas, we experienced some very erratic parking and driving around the school and the surrounding estate. Please, drive with caution and park with responsibility when dropping and collecting your children. Please have consideration for residents in the locality- do not block both sides of the roads or driveways.
Boys should only cross over roads at designated points where the lollipop ladies are situated. Let’s all work together to prevent an accident before it’s too late.
