Text

As we come to our midterm break, I would to take this opportunity to thank the whole school community for your kindness, generosity, support and words of encouragement. The staff in Hollypark work tirelessly to deliver top-class teaching and learning in each classroom everyday. Staff go above and beyond to make lifelong, positive memories for the boys each day. Working in partnership with you, the parents, makes the job much easier. Thanks to your generosity, the school has never looked better and the resources and equipment needed are state of the art. I wish you all a happy Hallowe'en. Enjoy your break!

HALLOWE'EN DRESS UP

Halloween is nearly upon us once again and we are looking forward to seeing the boys dressed up for our annual Hallowe'en dress-up day! This year it will take place on Friday 27th October.
Please find below guidelines and requirements to follow for the smooth and safe running of the day:

  • No accessories, i.e. nothing they need to hold in their hand or things that can be put down and lost/ stolen
  • No toy weapons eg. swords, toy guns, knives, dagers etc.
  • No long capes, dangly material or anything that may be a tripping hazard.
  • Costumes should be comfortable and practical for sitting in the classroom for the day, i.e. no inflatable costumes.
  • Be mindful that the costume isn’t going to scare a younger student. If you think a Junior Infant will be frightened, then tone it down or reconsider.

Less is more when it comes to costumes and keeping it simple can often be the most effective. There will be prizes throughout the school for best dressed and creative costumes. It is a very exciting day for the boys and with your continued support and understanding we hope to make it another success.
Boys do not have to dress up if they do not want to.

SPORTS BLITZ

A massive thank you to our wonderful Parents' Association who, once again, delivered an amazing Sports Blitz day. Due to the bad weather, Plan B was sprung into action and activities like yoga, pilates, dance, tennis, volleyball, soccer, rugby, cricket, High 5 sports all captured the boys' attention. The biggest hit of the day (pardon the pun!) was the drumming workshop for 5th class. School days like these last forever in the memories of our students. In fact, the current crop of Transition Year students from Blackrock College, Oatlands College and Colaiste Eoin remembered their days so well, they had to come back and help out. A huge thank you to Jack, Liam, Michael, Ewan, Jonathan, Josh, Conall, Oisin & Richie for help on the day. You are real role- models to our students.

Sports Blitz 2023, A MESSAGE FROM THE PA

Despite the rain, we hope all the boys had an enjoyable and memorable day on Friday!  We raised an incredible €20,027 and would like to thank all the boys and their families for their support and generosity.  All monies raised will be re-invested in the school.
Thank you to all parent volunteers, coaches and some past pupils from Oatlands College, Colaiste Eoin and Blackrock College for their help with the day.

It would not have been possible without the following people: Jana Langford, Stephen O’Shea of Monkstown Lawn Tennis Club, Jim Stewart of Cricket Leinster Development, Lina Dzurnak & Ewelina Gadek of Volleyball Ireland, Catherine McCutcheon Yoga, Hannah May ‘Dance the Day Away’ (hannahmayjane.com@gmail.com), High5 Sports (www.high5sports.ie), Isabel Farrelly with Ultimate Frisbee, Denise O’Beirne of Dizzy Feet Dance (www.dizzyfeet.ie), Joe McCarthy of Life Balance Pilates (www.lifebalance.ie), Granada Football Club, Reuben the Entertainer (www.entertainer.ie) and David Day with his drumming workshop (www.jabbajabbajembe.com

MATHS WEEK

Mr. Mc Evoy and Ms. Hynes provided the tools for a very successful Maths Week, enjoyed by all classes. Ardan O'Neill, Hugo Collins & Ms. Quealy all have very good estimation skills and guessed the correct number of objects in the jar. All 3 received a prize! Thank you also to Roman Geiger and Jack Gallagher, 4th class, who helped Ms. Hynes set up the week. Your help was very much appreciated boys.

AISTEAR

A huge THANK YOU for the numerous donations for our school Aistear programme. Kitchens, tool sets, farm animals, doll houses, cars, action figures and lots, lots more have been put to great use in Junior and Senior Infants. The boys were so excited to see the Aistear cupboards full with equipment. Aistear is a daily programme based on the principle of learning through play. It teaches vital social skills like communicating and sharing. It is easily the boys' favourite part of the day.
Pictured below are Billy, Oisin & Odhran from Room 3 arresting poor Mr. O'Donovan for eating too many chocolates! So now we know that's what he does in his office all day!

CHESS MATE

Past pupil, Oliver Barnes travelled to a ChessMates International competition in Rotterdam last weekend, along with 9 other players, as part of the Irish Junior Chess Team.  They played against teams from the Netherlands, Germany, France, Estonia and the UK in a 5 round team tournament over 3 days. ChessMates was set up to promote the development of youth chess and connections between young players from different cultures and nationalities. We are very proud of Oliver and look forward to seeing his progress in the coming years.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to our neighbouring school, St. Brigid's BNS, Foxrock, who won the Corn Na Gearaltach in Croke Park last Monday. Team co-ordinator Séan Melia, brother of Mrs. Regan (teacher Hollypark) and outfield superstar Luke Grennan, son of Lucy Grennan (SNA Hollypark) played key roles in the winning of the cup. The celebrations will continue all week! It is a lovely way for acting Principal, Angela Hayes to sign off her many years of commitment in St. Brigid's. The Hollypark community wish Angela the very best of luck in her retirement.
Also, congratulations to Kilmacud Crokes and their captain, Shane Cunningham (past pupil) for their 3-in-row County Final win. Hollypark was well represented throughout the squad and past mentors like Mr. Pat Morgan & Mrs. Katherine Bonner (former teachers), Paurac Mc Donald & Paul Devlin (Kilmacud Development Officers) should be very proud of themselves this week. They founded Gaelic Games in Hollypark and have played a key role in the success of Hollypark BNS & Kilmacud Crokes. Pictured is Shane Cunningham, captain Kilmacud Crokes

CHRISTMAS ANNUALS

Apologies for the mention of the 'C' word in October but in order to avoid disappointment, we need to order annuals before November 14th. Annuals cost 4.50e and boys can bring in monies to their class teacher. We recommend that boys purchase the annuals with their pocket money! There is no obligation to purchase an annual.
