SPORTING SUCCESS
Hollypark BNS is once again going from strength to strength on the sports pitches, tennis courts and golf courses. This week was a great week as our A Tennis team were crowned Leinster Champions. The boys returned home to a heroes welcome with a Guard of Honour from 5th, 6th and their Junior and Senior Infant buddies. Well done to Oscar Duggan Geary, James Langford, Patrick Tijs, Harry Tully Walsh, Toby Sheridan and Sam Carney. You did us proud boys! Thank you to parents, Judith Sheridan and all of our tennis volunteers for a very successful year. We had a total of 22 boys play league tennis for Hollypark this year.
Our golf team, made up of Brian Mc Mahon, Charlie Pattison, Liam Byrne and Ben Casey, brought home some silverware from a great outing in The Castle Golf Club last Monday. The boys had great fun meeting peers from other schools and showing off their golfing talents. Check out the photo below of Liam Byrne demonstrating how to hit the perfect bunker shot. Move over Shane Lowry, Liam is coming! Thank you to teacher and golf coach, Mr. Murphy for all his work with the golf team. We have 35 boys playing weekly golf with Mr. Murphy.
Our Junior A and B teams had narrow defeats to Scoil San Treasa and St. Mary's, Lucan this week. I had the pleasure of attending the A match in Deerpark. The skill on show from both teams was immense. Dublin hurling is riding the crest of a wave at the moment, thanks to 2 former Hollypark students, Ronan and Brian Hayes. The skills I saw on show yesterday leads me to believe Dublin hurlers will be dominating leagues and championships in a few years time. Huge credit must go to Mrs. Regan and her team of volunteers who train our teams. Ms K Costello, Ms. E Costello, Ms Grennan, Ms. Murphy, Mr. Murphy, Ms Feighean, Ms. Fallon, thank you all for your skills and expertise.
QUIZ TEAM
Well done to our fabulous quiz team who represented us at the Leinster finals last week. Charlie Pattison, Elliott Reck, David Murphy and Rian Murphy from 6th class are like human encyclopedias! Thank you to Ms. Brennan for coaching the quiz team and attending the quiz nights.
STEM CREATIONS
This week's STEM creations are from Ms. Murphy's class. The design brief was to create something you would see in the garden. The boys made rakes for sweeping the leaves, a lawnmower, a treehouse and a garden seat. Check out the images below!
SUNFLOWERS
A special thank you to Ms. Perera and her team of volunteers who have helped each class to plant sunflowers this week. Planting sunflowers is always a special occasion on our yearly calendar. Ms. Perera has been planting sunflowers in Hollypark schools for over 35 years. She is loved by young and old. Thank you to Ms. Perera and all involved for giving of their time. The boys really enjoyed their time in the planting area.
Past pupils, Simon Mc Carthy and Harry Slevin would like to thank the Hollypark school community for their incredible generosity. Last week's Jersey Day raised a whopping €857. 100% of donations received will go directly to helping children and families in Kolkata, India. Thank you.
STARS OF THE FUTURE
As the sun starts to shine and the summer comes into focus, many of our boys are playing leagues, cups and championships in a range of different sports. Pictued below are all our STARS OF THE FUTURE.
The 2013 Kilmacud Crokes team had a very special visit to Croke Park last Monday. They paraded around the pitch like on All- Ireland final day and then played a series of matches on the hallowed turf. What a great experience for these Stars of the Future.
Recently, a 5th class cohort went to Biarritz on a rugby trip. Pictured below are the boys bringing home the silverware! Also in 5th class is Abderrahman who recently played in soccer tournament in Barcelona. Abderrahaman even managed to score a goal in the final. The Barcelona scouts were watching and we are holding out for a transfer fee in the millions!
Our 4th class boys are a very active bunch. Last week, in an attempt to tire them out, their parents organised a trip to Hell and Back in Killruddery. The boys rose to the challenge and conquered climbing walls, braved the muddy trenches and overcame every obstacle in their way. These intrepid explorers showed true grit, determination and sportmanship. Well done to all involved.
William Merren from Mr.Ryan’s 3rd class was invited to visit the set of Wednesday which was being filmed in Deansgrange Cemetry on Friday 17th May to meet some of the cast.
He got to hear a scene being recorded with his own headphones on and gave the thumbs up when they cut!
To say he was star struck in an understatement! He was thrilled to meet Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Adams) who talked with William about school and his drama classes.
SCHOOL TOUR
It is that time of year again! School tours are always a highlight in any academic year. Our 5th class boys went on a great trip to Russborough House last week and enjoyed every minute. The boys were commended by the bus company and Russborough House for their impeccable manners and respect. Well done boys.
A FIELD OF DREAMS!
Check out the incredible video below made by parent, Stuart Halligan, featuring narrator Jacqui Hurley and a host of Hollypark BNS superstars. The video really captures the magic of youth and their dreams of glory. Well done to Sonny Ray Halligan for his lead role and players involved.
This week is a very special week for these great boys: Seamus Keane, Oisin walsh, Matthew Daly, Jim Barry, Oisin Buckley, Abderrahman Jerbi, David Kearns, Oisin O' Rourke, Roman Geyger, Neim Barma, Ross Moran, Aaron Kennedy and George Morgan.
Have a wonderful celebration boys.
