JERSEY DAY- FRIDAY MAY 24th

poster

Dear Hollypark Students and Parents and Teachers,

Our names are Simon McCarthy and Harry Slevin and we are former pupils of Hollypark Boys School. We are now 3rd year pupils in Oatlands College and next October we will be travelling to India for a week with a registered Irish charity called The HOPE Foundation. This charity was setup 25 years ago by three Cork women who wanted to help the very poor street children of Kolkata (Calcutta) and since then they have helped thousands of children. During the 7 days that we will be there, we will visit the schools that have been setup by the charity in Kolkata and spend time with the children that have been rescued from the streets. We will meet the families that it assists and see how they provide free healthcare to those who would not be able to afford any medical help.

We have been raising money for the HOPE foundation in advance of our trip and we would really appreciate if the students of Hollypark BNS would take part in a Jersey Day on Friday May 24th and donate 2e each for the HOPE Foundation. ALL money that is raised through the Hollypark BNS Jersey Day goes directly to the HOPE foundation.

We promise to take lots of photos and videos of our visit there and share them with the school when we come back. Perhaps it will be something that the Hollypark students will be able to do when they are in 3rd year! We are so grateful in advance of your donation and help and we are so grateful to Mr O’Donovan & Mrs Lynch and all the teachers in Hollypark for their support.

Thank you so much again
Harry Slevin & Simon McCarthy

JERSEY DAY

Boys can wear any jersey of their choice with school tracksuit bottoms or green/ black shorts. Hopefully, we will see a lot of Mayo jerseys on show!
Boys can bring in 2e and hand it to their class teacher. Simon and Harry will be onsite to collect all donations.

CONFIRMATION

Well done to our 6th class students who received the gift of the Holy Spirit last Friday. The ceremony, led by Fr. Gerry, was a beautiful one. The boys (and their parents!) were very respectful and the day was enjoyed by everyone. Thank you to teachers Mr. Mitchell, Ms. Crowe, Ms. Smyth, and SNA Ms. Mc Laughlin for their help preparing the boys. Thank you also to Fr. Gerry, Goretti Newell, Louisa (parish secretary) and the parish sacramental team for all their hard work.

The ceremony was made extra special by the beautiful singing of our 4th and 5th class choir. Thank you to Ms. Morgan and Ms. Brennan for their amazing work with the choir.

Well done to Matthew (5th class) and Ruairí (4th class) who proudly represented Granada FC at a soccer tournament in Paris and brought home the silverware. They played brilliantly throughout the tournament, won all group games and were cruelly denied a spot in the u11 Champions League final on penalties. Well done boys.

STANDARDISED TESTING MAY 2024

Standardised testing will begin in May for classes 2nd-6th as per the Department of Education’s recent circular to schools. 2nd -6th will have tests in spelling, reading and maths.

1st classes will only have the spelling test, as whole class standardised testing in 1st is not recommended.

These tests are just one method of assessing a pupil’s performance and we know that it is just a snapshot on a particular day that can be affected by numerous circumstances.

Standardised tests will give us information to guide our teaching and learning for the next academic year. It will also help us to identify pupils who may benefit from additional support.

For further information, please check out this link on the NCCA website.
