PREPARING FOR SEPTEMBER '23

Your son’s Booklist, Sundries, Extras and Insurance were emailed to all parents yesterday. The Department of Education are now covering the cost of schoolbooks and copies under the new grant scheme which presents a great saving to you.
You are required to pay only for the Sundries, Extras and Insurance.

Please return your completed booklist and insurance form with your son’s name and current class marked clearly to your son’s teacher.
You can pay by cash, cheque (made payment to St. Patrick’s BNS) or via Aladdin by Wednesday 24th May 2023.

Your Booklist and payments must be returned by Wednesday 24th May to ensure books are ordered and in our classes before the end of June. We will not be taking orders after Wednesday 24th May. Please be aware that book companies are under added pressure this year to supply schoolbooks under the new government scheme.
Many thanks for your co-operation in this matter.

SPORTS ROUND-UP

Well done to our Junior A hurlers who had a convincing win against St. Brigid's BNS yesterday. Hard luck to our B team who battled hard against an excellent Lucan team. Thank you to Mrs. Regan, Ms. Costello, Ms. Clinton, Ms. Reynolds, Mrs. Walsh and Mr. Murphy for giving of their time and expertise to coach the teams.

In tennis news, the Holly Park BNS 1 tennis team has qualified for the semi-final of the Leinster Primary Schools League. Having topped their qualifying group, last week. The boys had a terrific victory, winning 3-0 against Willow Park in some closely fought matches. The team will next take on St Pius X. Best of luck boys! Thank you to all the parents involved in coaching, mentoring and chauffeuring the boys to matches!

Hard luck to our wonderful 6th class soccer team, led by captain fantastic, Christian Smyth. Unfortunately, Ballyroan BNS were just too good for us last week in a tense and nervy semi final. I know our boys will bounce back and this defeat will be the making of them as they play future matches. Thank you to Mr. Mc Evoy and Mr. Murphy for all their hard work (mornings and evenings) with this great team.

TRAVELLING WITH AUTISM

For any of our families with an autistic family member, Dublin airport offer additional support and assistance. They will provide you with a wristband or lanyard which can be shown to staff at any areas where you might encounter queues or crowds, such as security or boarding. The lanyards have a sunflower pattern on them for ease of recognition and they say “Important Flyer”.

Additionally on the website there are visual guides provided for both terminals which include photos. This might allow you to prepare your child in advance for the airport environment to provide familiarity.

If you or your child have a diagnosis or a query diagnosis of autism, you are eligible to apply. You will need a supporting letter from your GP along with your application.

You can apply via the following page:

Standardised Testing May 2023

Standardised testing has resumed for classes 2nd-6th as per the Department of Education’s recent circular to schools. 2nd -6th will have tests in spelling, reading and maths.

1st classes will only have the spelling test, as whole class Standardised testing in 1st is not recommended.

These tests are just one method of assessing a pupil’s performance and we know that it is just a snapshot on a particular day that can be affected by numerous circumstances.

Standardised tests will give us information to guide our teaching and learning for the next academic year. It will also help us to identify pupils who may benefit from additional support.

For further information, please check out this link on the NCCA website.

STARS OF THE FUTURE

Last weekend, the Blackrock U12s entered the International Rugby Tournament in Tyrosse, near Biarritz. The team included 7 boys from Holly Park:

  • Alex Bourke
  • Alexis Borre
  • Charlie Pattison
  • John Paul O'Grady
  • Luke Marry
  • Michael Davitt
  • Peter Twomey
The boys had a phenomenal morning and won all of their initial games against Bayonne and the Spanish Team Valladolid RAC. They were then reseeded upwards in the afternoon and had two tough games, one of which was against a very strong Castres team. Our boys fought brilliantly to secure a victory over St. Mary’s thereby securing their 3rd place trophy position. Well done to all involved!
