SLÁN MRS. Mc CARRICK

Last week we waved a fond farewell to Mrs. Ciara Mc Carrick. She retires after 16 wonderful years in Hollypark BNS. Ciara spent half of her teaching career with us in HPBNS and how blessed we were to have her. A kind, caring, thoughtful and beautiful person, she will be dearly missed in classrooms, corridors and the staff room. Ciara, you enriched the lives of the children you taught and together with your bright smile and positivity you brightened up our school. Thank you for all your hard work.

Ciara and her husband John are also the founders of The Kenyan Child Foundation - a wonderful charity that ensures children in Kenya have access to school. Together with our Cake Sale fundraising and a school donation, we presented The Kenyan Child Foundation with €2,000. The monies raised will go a long way in Kenya. Included in the photograph above are Ms. Flannery, Ms. Feighan, Ms. Costello & Ms. Mc Laughlin all of whom spent their summer holidays working in Kenya with The Kenyan Child Foundation.

STARS OF THE FUTURE

Seachtaine Na Gaeilge has been a great week for Clann Carron. Ar an Luain, Colm, rang a dó agus Thomas, rang a ceathair, entertained the boys in Scoil Phadraig Naofa. Colm, Irish dancing and Thomas playing the féadóg stáin agus an bosca ceoil, went around several classes to perform. The two boys were fantastic and they have inspired our younger boys to take up dancing and music. Maith sibh a bhuachaillí.

FESTIVAL OF RUGBY

Congratulations to our 5th class rugby team who competed in the Fr. Gavin Festival of Rugby in Willow Park last Saturday. My son Ross and I had the pleasure of attending. The boys topped their group in the morning session and were re-graded for the afternoon. They beat Seapoint in their opening game and unfortunately, much like Ireland v England, they lost to Naas & CBC Monkstown with the last plays of the game. The battles were tight and tense and our players can hold their heads up high. They represented Hollypark brilliantly and I was very proud of them. We look forward to doing it all over again next year!
Thank you to parents Paul O'Grady, Maurice Tunney, David Martin & Michael Ennis for coaching, managing and supervising the team.

5- A-SIDE SOCCER TEAMS

Two Hollypark 5-a-side soccer teams competed in Stepaside last week. Both teams played beautiful football demonstrating skill, flair and teamwork. A special well done to Ronan Mc Kennedy, showing nerves of steel, who scored a vital penalty kick to get his team through to the next round. It was a great day out. Thank you to Mr. Mc Evoy and Mr. Condell for accompanying the teams.

CINEÁLTAS FLAG

The Cineáltas flag was raised in Hollypark today as a reminder to the school community of our commitment to show kindness to each other in our daily interactions in school. Our wonderful student council went around to every class in the school and asked them to explain what kindness (cineáltas) meant to them in their school lives. The boys on the student council then put together a poster showing the words that came up most frequently across all of the classes in our school. As you can see words like helping, honesty, sharing, loyalty, respect, loving and caring all featured heavily. The poster is on display in every corridor in the school as a reminder for the boys of our commitment to showing kindness to each other. Parents can help to reinforce this message at home.
A copy of the poster is included below.

A huge congratulations to past pupils Seán Horan, Doug Walshe & Mark McGorisk. They received a UCD Entrance Scholarship award at a ceremony in UCD on 29th February.

The award is presented to students for academic excellence in their Leaving Certificate and students must achieve at least 560 points to receive the award. It was great to see that the 3 Hollypark boys maintained the friendships that they forged all those years ago. We are extremely proud of our past pupils.

SUPER 'KEEPER

Congratulations to Loreto Foxrock Hockey Team who are the new Leinster champions! Grace Jones, Mr. Jones' daughter, saved 8/10 1v 1 penalties to ensure her team won this very prestigious title. 5 years ago, Grace was inspired by Irish Goalkeeper Ayeisha Mc Ferran and began to take her hockey coaching very seriously. Now it is Grace's turn to inspire the next generation. Well done Loreto and Grace, enjoy the celebrations!
