HOLLYPARK'S GOT TALENT

Well done both Hollypark Boys' and Girls' schools for showcasing their incredible talents last Sunday. In front of a sell out crowd, both schools entertained and got us in the festive spirit. Introduced by the boys, Hollypark girls sang 5 beautiful Christmas Carols, under the direction of Ms. Gunning & Ms. De Fréin. There wasn't a dry eye in the church as the girls gave a rousing rendition of When You Believe. Well done to Oscar Duggan Geary, James Slevin, Fionan Mc Donagh, Scott Campbell, Ryan Farrell, Donal Carron, Christopher Kirwan, Conor Walsh, David Murphy and Finn Duff for speaking so eloquently on the stage. They really did the Boys' school proud. It was lovely to be part of a joint venture with the Girls' school.

Well done also to the raffle ticket sellers on the night, the 10 boys mentioned previously, together with student council boys: Peter Purcell, Brian Mc Mahon, Hari Cahill, Ben Casey, Sam Smyth, Daniel Maloney, Archie Wyse & the Magee family, they helped raise a lot of money for Kyrie Farm. Well done to all involved.

Please read the message below from Paul Markey, Chair of the Parish Pastoral Council.

PARISH CHRISTMAS CONCERT

Fr Gerry, the Parish Pastoral Council, and the Organizing Committee wish to express their heartfelt thanks to all who attended our Christmas Concert last Sunday evening. It was a spectacular success and it was wonderful to the church full.

Special thanks must go to the Foxrock Parish Choir led by Simon Orrock and the soloists and musicians who brought such enjoyment with their performances. Paul Beausang showed his undoubted skills as an orator and Master of Ceremonies on the night.

The concert would not have been the success it was without the superb performances by the Hollypark Girls School Choir led by Principal Berni Gunning and Siobhán de Fréin, music teacher and the beautiful verses and introductions recited by the Hollypark Boys School supervised by Principal Barry O’ Donovan. Thanks also to the boys who sold raffle tickets throughout the evening thus hugely adding to the funds collected by ticket sales.

The concert would not have been the success it was without the assistance of our great volunteers who managed the entry to the concert, assisted those requiring seating and managed the Pastoral Centre so that the choirs could enjoy comfort breaks and who oversaw the entire event and ensure all went smoothly on the night.

We are indebted to a large number of local businesses and to our suppliers who sponsored the event and who donated prizes for our very successful raffle. We are very grateful to all who purchased raffle tickets.

Funds are still being received and we will advise you next week of the exact amount received.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Wednesday and Thursday last week our school hall was turned into a busy ‘Pop-Up’ shop selling second hand uniform items and Christmas Jumpers. From 8.30 Ryan Farrell, Oscar Duggan-Geary and Seichi deGuzman were outside the school, using Mr. O’Donovan’s trusty megaphone encouraging parents to drop in, pick up a bargain and support a very worthwhile charity, St. Vincent de Paul. We would like to thank you for supporting. The Student’s Voice’s first ever fundraiser and helping us to raise a whopping €704.60 as well as playing our part in reducing waste.
Happy Christmas!
Scott Campbell and Matthew Rourke and The Student’s Voice Team

DLR PRIMARY ARTS & MR. RYAN's CLASS

Mr. Ryan's 3rd class are really lucky to have the chance to work with artist Liz Mc Mahon. For the next 13 weeks, the boys and Liz will explore the medium of clay. Last week, the boys learned how to form shapes and construct clay models. The details of the lesson are located on a dlr blog each week. I have included the links below to the blog and to the artistic creations produced by the boys in week 1. Well done boys, budding artists at work.

PEACE PROMS

3rd class were busy practising for the Peace Proms Choir Workshop in the National Indoor Arena in Blanchardstown yesterday. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase their entire repertoire of songs and musical talents with a host of schools from around Dublin in anticipation of the Peace Proms 2024 in February in the RDS.

DENTAL HYGIENE

Julia, a dental hygienist from South Beach Clinic visited our school on Wednesday 29th November, to teach the children the importance of dental hygiene and how to brush their teeth properly.

Julia gave each child a pack which includes an information leaflet about brushing technique, a couple of disclosing tablets to check their effectiveness at brushing their at home, and a brushing challenge card to tick twice daily for 2 weeks when they brush their teeth.

The children are asked to complete these forms and return them to their class teacher. For every form returned, South Beach Clinic will donate €5 to the school. This means that if every form is returned to our school South Beach Clinic would donate €2675 to our school. The money raised will be used to enhance our STEM equipment and STEM workshops.

We thank South Beach Dental for their generosity while also teaching the boys about the importance of good dental hygiene.

PAST PUPILS TO THE FORE AGAIN

Congratulations to captain Shane Cunningham (past pupil) and all the Kilmacud Crokes football team on the Leinster final win at the weekend. Well done to all our past pupils who represented Kilmacud last weekend. We look forward to the players bringing the cup to Hollypark BNS!

A huge congratulations also to the Kilmacud Crokes u21 hurling team who won the County Final last weekend. Featuring a host of ex Hollyparkers, they beat Lucan Sarsfields on penalties. Kilmacud are benefitting from all the hard work Mrs. Regan and her coaching team put into these boys from age 6. We look forward to our past pupils bringing the cup in for a visit.
