Dates for your diary

Parents’ Association AGM – Tuesday 5th November at 7.30pm, School Hall.

First Reconciliation (2nd Class) – February 25th , 2020 at 6.30pm, Foxrock Church.

Monthly Focus

This month we will be focusing on ‘kind words, kind actions’. It is very important that our boys treat all people with respect and using kind words and kind actions on yard, in school and at home will help to reinforce this positive behavior.

Parents’ Association Sport Blitz Fundraiser

The annual sports blitz will take place on October 24th. The boys have received their sponsorship cards. This is the Parents’ Association’s main fundraiser and it is one of our favourite days of the year. Sports blitz activities for Infants – 2nd include yoga, dance, cricket, GAA, soccer, pilates, rounders, playball and many more activities. Classes 3rd - 6th will travel to sports venues away from the school.

A Message from the Lollipop Lady

Please ensure when boys are crossing the road that they are crossing in front of the lollipop lady.

Lost Property

We are once again amassing a huge amount of lost jumpers and jackets. Parents, please ensure your son’s name, class and your phone number is clearly marked on all boys' belongings. It is the boys’ (and parents’!) responsibility to ensure boys have all their belongings with them before going home each day.

Mouthguards/ Gumshields

As gumshields/mouthguards are compulsory to wear during all GAA and rugby activities, we are teaming up with Impact Gumshields, Sandyford to create custom fit gumshields for the season ahead. James from Impact Gumshields will be in the school on Tuesday 15th November to scan boys who would like to purchase a custom fit gumshield. The cost of a custom fit gumshield is 54 euro. Follow the link https://impactgumshields.com/hollypark19/ for more information and to book your son’s scan. If you do not wish to have a custom fit gumshield, regular gumshields are available in the office.

Health and Wellbeing

We will celebrate World Mental Health day on Thursday 9th October. We are marking the day with a range of activities. The boys will enjoy DEAC (drop everything and colour), mindfulness, 10 @ 10 physical exercise activities and class discussions on the topic. Each boy in the school will add their thumb print to this week’s school slogan ‘Happy or Sad, It’s Good to Talk’ which will be on display in the school. Thanks to Ms. Hynes and Mr. Cunnane for organising.

Fundamental Movement Skills

It is very important that all boys leave primary school with basic fundamental movement skills of walking, running, hopping, skipping, jumping, dodging, side-stepping, balance throwing and catching, striking and kicking. During PE class boys are taught using the Move Well, Move Often programme. Parents can assist their children with these basic movements at home. Log onto https://pdst.ie/physlit and click the Move Well, Move Often tab for activities, games and videos.

Cumann na mBunscol (Gaelic Football)

Unfortunately, it is the end of the road for our Senior A team this year. They put in a huge effort this season and in their quarter final defeat to Ballyroan. They represented the school with distinction. Many of the players will now turn their attention to hurling and fingers crossed for a return to Croke Park. Senior Bs are still carrying the torch and will play St. Pius this week in Bushy Park. Best of luck boys, you will do us proud. Thank you to Mr. Mitchell and Mrs. O Callaghan for their time and expertise.

Junior Football

3 wins from 3 games for our magnificent Junior A team. A great team performance saw them beat St. Mary’s BNS, Lucan on Tuesday afternoon. Our Junior B team battled hard to the end but unfortunately came up just short. We are very proud of all our teams.

Con and Sam

Many thanks to Con O’Callaghan for visiting our school last week and bringing the coveted Sam Maguire cup along. As well as signing autographs and posing for hundreds of photographs (with admiring staff members also!), Con spoke about the importance of schoolwork, playing multiple sports, being a team player and always believing in yourself no matter how big the challenge. Con is a fantastic role- model for our boys and we thank him for his time. Same time, same place next year Con?

Stars of the Future!

Congratulations to David Murphy, 2nd class, who came second out of 800 entries in the DLR Primary Schools Drawing Competition. David will collect his award in Dun Laoghaire this week. His work of art will be on display in Stillorgan Shopping Centre for the month of October. Well done David!

Beir bua agus beannacht,
