Christmas Collection in Aid of Capuchin Day Centre

Our Advent collection this year is in aid of the Capuchin Day Centre for the homeless in Central Dublin.

At this time of year the centre supports the homeless by providing hundreds of warm meals every day for adults, children and families in a safe and caring environment. Combating Child Poverty is our focus this year and with that in mind, we are gathering some supplies to make Christmas a little better for homeless families.

An incredible amount of donations have arrived into school this week. Parents and boys, we thank you so much for your generosity.

  • Junior Infants – New socks and tights (Children u15)
  • Senior Infants – Hats, gloves and scarves (Children u15)
  • 1st Class – Shower gel, soap, shampoo
  • 2nd Class – Nappies and wipes (any size, any brand)
  • 3rd Class – Baby Formula (any brand, age and stage)
  • 4th Class – New hats, gloves, scarves (Children u15)
  • 5th Class – New socks and tights (Children u15)
  • 6th Class – Baby Formula (any brand, age and stage)

Please feel free to donate extra items from the list. There will be a box outside each classroom for any donations you wish to make. Thank you to Ms. Mc Carrick and the boys of 5th class for organising this event.

The Capuchin Day Centre and Brother Kevin Crowley send their heartfelt thanks on behalf of the homeless to the boys and families of Hollypark for their kind support.

Monthly Focus

With the collection for the Capuchin Centre in full flow, this month’s focus is on ‘a kind act a day for Advent’. Some examples boys have given me - making their bed, play with a new friend on yard, setting the dinner table, giving a compliment and sharing their toys with siblings!

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Things that can help keep children and young people mentally well include:

  • being in good physical health, eating a balanced diet and getting regular exercise.
  • having time and the freedom to play, indoors and outdoors.
  • being part of a family that gets along well most of the time
  • going to a school that looks after the wellbeing of all its pupils.
  • taking part in local activities for young people.
  • little or no use of screen time.

Christmas Decorations

Many thanks to Jo- Ann, our Parents’ Association Chairperson, and her team for the beautiful Christmas tree and decorations. The Christmas spirit has been spread throughout the school and has given the staff an extra little pep in their step this week!

Stars of the Future

This week's stars of the future all belong to Room 1,2 and 3. Yes, this is the week where our Junior Infant boys take to the stage to make their parents laugh, cry and beam with pride! The show starts at 9.30am sharp. Parents are encouraged to be in their seats by 9.20am. Mr. Ryan will be armed with his video camera and he will record the show from start to finish. DVDs will be available to purchase for 5 Euro . They will make lovely Christmas presents!

With this in mind, we ask parents not to record on mobile phones or recording devices.

Due to the lack of space in our school hall there will be room for adults only – no school going siblings and no buggies please.

Many congratulations to Luke Dunphy 5th class who won the very prestigious Best Minor Sailor 2019 in RIYC, Dun Laoghaire over the past few weeks. Luke received an enormous cup which was on full display in the school last Monday.

Christmas Annuals

Christmas annuals are available to buy from your son’s teacher at 4 Euro each. Boys will receive a note in their folders/ journalsin the coming days.
