Monthly Focus

This is the last week of our monthly focus saying ‘thank you’. Well done to all the boys who are making a great effort and showing great manners in and around the school. I hope you have noticed a big difference around the house!

Music Generation

We welcomed Aidan from Music Generation into Hollypark on Monday. Ukulele began in 1st and 4th class and boys really enjoyed their first taste of the instrument! I’m really looking forward to the first ukulele concert!

Sign-In Book

If you need to take your son out of school early, please sign the sign-in/sign-out book located in the front foyer beside the office. If your son has forgotten his training gear, it might be a good learning experience for him to have to miss out on training that day instead of dropping it up to the school for him! We are endeavouring to minimise classroom interruptions, so please ensure your son has his gear on the correct day.

New Beginnings

On Thursday, the 4th, 5th and 6th class boys will join their Girls’ School counterparts in celebrating mass. The theme of the mass is ‘New Beginnings’ and will be celebrated by Fr. Kieran Dunne who is our new parish priest in Foxrock. We wish him well in his new role. Thanks to Mrs. Lawlor, Mrs. Gunning, Ms. De Freyne and Goretti Newell for accompanying the choir which is made up of boys and girls from 6th class.

The Trees (again!!)

Parents, please keep your children out of the tress before, during and after school. It is a major health and safety issue.

Health and Wellbeing

As part of our initiative to tackle mental health and wellbeing and getting our boys to be ‘kind to their mind’, we will have our first guest speaker in to talk to the 5th class boys on October 1st . Kellie Harrington, Women’s World Boxing Champion, will speak to the boys on behalf of the Dare to Believe Irish Olympic Schools Programme, where they aim to inspire the young people of Ireland to ‘Dare to Believe’ in themselves. Their Olympic and Paralympic Ambassadors visit schools across Ireland telling their stories and teaching students how to set goals and adopt healthy lifestyles through participation in sport. We really look forward to welcoming Kellie into Hollypark and hope that she can inspire our boys to dare to believe.

European Day of Sport

To celebrate European Day of Sport on Friday 27th September, the boys from 2nd-6th are invited to the hall for a healthy breakfast, starting at 8.20am. All boys, Infants to 6th, will then participate in 2 hours of exercise in school. We encourage as many boys as possible to scoot, cycle, walk or park and walk to school on Friday 27th . As part of their maths integration, 6th class boys will be on hand to collate the data of the various ways boys arrived to school. It is our hope that pie-charts and trend graphs will be spiking in the right direction that day! Please ensure your son wears his tracksuit and brings an extra drink.

Many thanks to Ms. O’Brien and the team of teacher volunteers for leading us in this and to our wonderful Parents’ Association who yet again are on hand to assist us.

Cumann na mBunscol (Gaelic Football)

Mr. Mitchell, Mrs. O’ Callaghan (and ably assisted by Mr. Mc Evoy on the day) were very impressed with the determination and attitude the senior football team showed last Thursday. Falling 5 points behind, the boys rallied, showing immense teamwork and grasped a draw from the jaws of defeat. Great goals from Darragh Eyre and Michael O’Leary set up a nervous finish, but it was the superb goalkeeping of Ryan Crowley that ensured the points were shared. Well done to all the boys and teachers involved.

Junior Football

Not to be outdone, the Junior A team, under the instruction of Mr. Cunnane and Ms. Costello, survived a late comeback to beat St. Michael’s by 5 points yesterday. That’s two wins from two for the Junior A’s. Keep it up boys! Our Junior B team had the week off to prepare for their next fixture.

Stars of the Future!

This week at assembly Mr. Mitchell's class entertained us with a poem as Gaeilge called, Mo Mhádra. Excellent work boys.

Tá na duilleoga ag titim ar an talamh.

Aldi stickers

We are once again busy collecting Aldi Play Rugby stickers. Last year we benefitted from collecting enough stickers to fill 5 large posters which resulted in hundreds of euro of rugby equipment for our school. We hope to emulate this feat again this year!
