Active Schools :

We are aiming to get our first Blue Flag for our school by taking part in the Active Schools initiative this year.

We have to complete certain tasks and be as active as we possibly can throughout the school year, in and out of school.

Hurling in Hollypark

Every boy in Hollypark gets the opportunityhurling 4 at some stage to play hurling. We have a long association with  Kilmacud Crokes who provide hurling coaching to all classes from Senior Infants to 3rd Class. The current coach is former Dublin hurler, and Kilmacud player, Niall Corcoran. Niall provides a coaching block of between 6 to 10 weeks and takes classes for PE lessons in conjunction with the PE curriculum. This year Niall has been working with the Senior Infants. Mrs. Regan and Mr. Mitchell cater for hurlers from 4th, 5th and 6th class who all qualify to play for the school hurling team.

The school enters three teams each year in the Cumann na mBunscol competition. We have two Junior hurling teams (4th and 5th class) and one Senior hurling team (5th and 6th class). The league usually begins every year in March with the chance of reaching the final in Croke Park in May. Our 3rd class enter the Féile de Búrca competition in June and play local schools. Our senior hurling team have played in Croke Park and have had great success. We have won the Marino Cup final (Division 2) and have been promoted to the Herald Cup (Division 1) where we won the Shield. We are currently preparing for the league at lunch break and hopes are high that we will reach the finals in Croke Park in May 2014.

Hollypark BNS Tennis

Tennis 2Hollypark has a long-standing and successful tradition in tennis. The School teams are selected to participate in the Leinster Junior and Primary Schools Tennis League. They always represent the school very well and in recent years have experienced wonderful success winning Division 1 in both 2011 and 2012. This was an amazing achievement as the standard in Division 1 is extremely high. Currently we have two teams competing in Divisions 2 and 3 of the league. Both teams have got off to a strong start and we are very hopeful that they will progress to the knockout stage of the competition this year. The boys play all their home matches in Newtown Park Tennis Club, we are very grateful to the members for making the courts available to us. The following boys are involved: Team 1 Shane Murray & Charlie Walker David Rohan & Pete McDermott Darragh Kelly & John Francis Campbell Team 2 Peter Sharpe & Louis Crowe Micheal Egan & Otto Searson Conor Staunton & Hugo O’Brien Subs James Coyle & James Furlong James Donohoe & Gareth Stewart Lord

Gaelic football in Hollypark B.N.S

Hollypark BNS had a highly successful year in the 2013/14 season.

For the first year ever we were able to field:
3 junior teams
3 senior teams

All our junior teams won their respective leagues with the Junior A team playing a nail biting ‘winner takes all’ league match against Ballyroan BNS. Thankfully our boys were excellent and went the whole season unbeaten and came out on top!

Our Senior B team also went unbeaten in their league with a win rate of 6 from 6.
Beautiful medals were presented to both teams and the cups are on display in our large trophy cabinet!

Our Senior A team were very unlucky in the end and lost by a point in the quarter final to the eventual winners Scoil Mhuire Marino.

Our team captains for the year had a massive part to play in the success of our season. Showing dedication and determination both training and in matches.

This year we had over 180 boys playing competitive football-the future of Hollypark and Dublin GAA looks bright!

Of course all this could not have been done without the support of the parents who very generously give lifts here, there and everywhere and without the wonderful help and dedication of a number of teachers.
Mr. Mc Evoy (who didn’t lose a match all year!)

Mini – Olympic Handball

Hollypark Boys School has a longolympic handball 2 tradition of playing Mini-Olympic Handball. We have competed in Dublin  and All- Ireland competitions for over twenty years at U11 and U13 level. We have many titles to our credit.  Our most recent title is  – U11 Dublin Champions 2013. Team members:  Eadbhard O Callaghan (captain), Daniel Daly, Michael Egan, Brian Hayes, Mark Mulvey, Colm Roche, Elliot Mc Williams, James Coyle and Samuel Loscher.

We are very fortunate here in Hollypark to have a wonderful coach in Mr.Maloney, who is also our P.E. teacher for the school.

Mr.Maloney has been nurturing the basketball teams over the past few years and has led the boys to achieve some super successes over the years.

The boys were unlucky to lose out last year in the Inter Schools basketball tournament where they were runners up.

Ms.Feighan also helps out with basketball.

Over the past two years we have had a golf team who have competed in various school tournaments. The boys have been mentored by one of our super parents along with Mr.Cunnane.

We are expecting great things from the boys this year.

Cricket has recently become a welcomed feature here in Hollypark. Each year Cricket Leinster send out some of their coaches to run a block of sessions with our 6th class boys.
